If you are interested in raising alpacas as a business investment, it’s important to thoroughly research what’s involved in being an alpaca professional.  Taking care of the animals is the easy part.  But whether you are interested in breeding females, offering the services of a herdsire, or creating a line of alpaca fiber products, you’ll need to understand the business side of things.  While raising alpacas as livestock can provide major tax advantages, it won’t do you much good if you are not also able to successfully market and sell your services.

Small Dog Toys versus Large Dog Toys

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Is there really a difference between Small Dog Toys and Large Dog Toys?

The size of your dog will help determine which toys are most suitable.  You wouldn’t want to give a large bone to a Dachshund, nor would giving a small ball to a Saint Bernard be the best idea; he might swallow it in one gulp.  That’s why they make small dog toys and large dog toys.  Just like humans, one size does not always fit all.

Leaving Your Dog at Home Alone

Friday, May 12th, 2006

If you are going to leave your dog alone for a long period of time then don’t be surprised with the behavior issues he might develop. Being alone, he deals with two big problems. The first one is the physic and emotional discomfort, because he sees he is free and he doesn’t know what he is allowed to do and what he isn’t. Sometimes stress is added because he is afraid of doing something that can get him punished. The second problem comes out of the need of a dog to be permanently around people or other dogs.

Should I Have Fish in My Pond?

Monday, April 24th, 2006

When people first start hearing about ponds, they typically want just the water garden and not the fish that can come with it. Most of the people who start out not wanting anything to do with fish in their garden are the main ones who become fish lovers. So before you try to convince yourself why you shouldn’t have fish, maybe you should hear some reasons why you should.

One of the main reasons why you might not want to have fish in your pond is because of the high-maintenance that comes along with it. Well here is a little secret; having fish in your pond can in fact help your pond’s ecosystem and reduce the maintenance you would need to do in order to take care of your watergarden.Â

Pets and Children- Do they Mix?

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Once you have chosen the type of pet that you want, look through this information together as a family and discuss the good and bad points of the particular pet that is being considered, for example a dog needs exercise regularly and cleaning up after, a cat can be very independant and scratch furniture, hamsters, mice, rats, guinea pigs, gerbils etc all need very regular cleaning out - you will find this is the sort of job that your child will easily ‘forget’ to do, once they have their pet. This is also a god time to bring up the issue of expense of having a pet, both to purchase the pet, as well as feeding, any vet fees, vaccinations etc. Wise parents will stress the degree of commitment and responsibility that is required from the child when they are asking for a pet, and possibly even ask for some sort of monetary contribution from the children.

Use a Portable Dog Kennel to Save Space

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Thousands of people use the regular “old-time” dog kennels that take up lots of space, both in a vehicle and at home if you have them set up there to “kennel train” your animals. These types of kennels are hard to store and hard to navigate around if you have to put them in the middle of the floor or in the car for travel. Portable dog kennels can alleviate these problems. Yuk! Cleaning Cat Urine!

Friday, April 14th, 2006

To say cleaning cat urine is not much fun, is a bit like saying the Scottish winter is a bit nippy. As the proud (or daft) owner of four cats, including 2 kittens which have yet to learn to control their bladder, and an aging feline that has lost the ability to, I’ve gotta tell you: cleaning cat pee is the absolute pits.

There are a few things that will make washing away cat urine a bit more sufferable, but there’s nothing that could make it enjoyable.

Feline Acne

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

Cat lovers often have big hearts when it comes to the furry pets and this can be a wonderful thing, but it can also lead to trouble. My friend owns two lovely cats that are very well taken care of by their owner. They are kept indoors and they visit their vet on a regular basis. My friend opened her home to a stray cat who introduced feline acne to her two cats and it has wreaked havoc on her home as well as her checkbook.

Walking Your Dog

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

When you endeavor to go about walking your dog, no matter the destination – on the city streets, in parks or in open spaces – it is necessary that he respects the disciplinary rules settled before and learned, to avoid getting into problems with other animals or people we meet.
