Widescreen Televisions Enhance Movie Watching

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

The problem with trying to watch films on conventional televisions is that the aspect ratio for movie screens and the aspect ratio for televisions are vastly different. A movie screen projects images on a rectangle shaped screen, as we are all familiar with. Often times the width of the movie screen is two times larger than the height. A standard television set obviously does not have the same set up.

LCD TV- Efficient Cinema Quality

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

The reason LCD TV screens can be so flat and efficient, is because it does not have a cathode ray tube like a normal TV. A cathode ray tube, or CRT, is basically a gun that shoots out electrons at high speed at the surface of a normal TV. These electrons hit a surface that fluoresces, giving you a pixel on the screen.

Home Theater As A Gift

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Purchasing a home theater as a gift is a perfect alternative to the humdrum presents we give one another for special occasions. Instead of just adding to what we already have, a home theater system literally creates brand new opportunities for ongoing entertainment. It is a gift that really does keep on giving with each broadcast of a dearly loved favorite and every new release that filters out to retailers.

John Wayne Movies

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Did you ever watch John Wayne when he was young, in a movie called Angel and the Badman?

I think it’s my favorite of the John Wayne movies, although True Grit, with Kim Darby playing Mattie Ross to his Marshall Reuben J. ‘Rooster’ Cogburn, and  Rooster Cogburn, with Katherine Hepburn playing Eula Goodright to his same character, are up there on the “Howdy, Maam” top ten John Wayne movies…for me.

I was never into John Wayne when I was a kid watching the few available movies on the few available channels.  Maybe I couldn’t appreciate that strange, loping affect, or that exaggerated macho cowboy crap.

Article about Home Theater System

These days it has never been sweeter to have a home theater system.  Hollywood keeps pumping out trash, and the home entertainment technologies just keep getting better, so it’s no wonder that people are more and more opting to stay home and watch movies on their own home theatre systems rather than in the cinemas.  With the movie experience getting more obnoxious and more expensive every year, you just can’t go wrong with a home theater system if you like movies at all.

Alanis Morissette is a famous Canadian singer, composer, and actress, most famous for her chart-topping album ‘Jagged Little Pill’, which to date has sold over 30 million copies around the world.

She released three follow up albums, all of which have been huge successes, though none have sold as ‘Jagged Little Pill’.
Â

In the spring of 1995, Morissette signed on with Maverick Records, and ‘Jagged Little Pill’ was released. The album started off slowly, reaching 118 on the Billboard 200 chart, but when a LA DJ from a popular radio station came across one of the songs from the album he began playing it around the clock.Â

The song was ‘You Oughta Know’, and its sudden popularity rolled it into a video on MTV. It was an edgy, angry song, and its use of harsh language startled many people unused to hearing it from a female singer. Several of the albums other songs also began to get a lot of coverage, and the album itself soared in sales.Â

The Art of Acting Book Review

Friday, April 28th, 2006

There are many different sources out there about acting
and different techniques and methods. It can be very difficult knowing where to start.

Below is a review, which will greatly help you start. A huge tip is to do your reading.
Read plays. Read all the plays you can.

Try some of the classics,
for example shows by Tennessee Williams, Arthur miller, Eugene
O’Neil, etc. Not only will this broaden your knowledge, but also
many times teachers make references to shows, and you will not
understand what they are trying to teach you.

Stella Adler: The Art of Acting I feel is a must read for any student of acting…

A Cure For Snoring - The Facts

Friday, April 21st, 2006

It seems like we all have those goofy snoring stories about our fathers and grandfathers. It wasn’t until I reached high school that the raging snore from the next bedroom really started to annoy me. It wasn’t my father, but actually my older brother. He could vie with the best of them. I couldn’t believe that he slept through all that racket.

Acting Auditions Be Prepared

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

First Impressions are Lasting Impressions.

In show business, the first impression can sometimes be the last impression. Producers, directors and casting directors are busy people.

The deciding factor in giving an unknown (or even an experienced actor whose opportunities have been limited) a chance toread for a part is often based on first impressions.
It’s up to you to know how to handle yourself during an interview: how to be at ease, and how to be well poised. How to sell yourself; how not to oversell yourself.

Acting How They Got Started!

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

If you think that you need to be the most beautiful, dashing, or well spoken individual to make it as an actor maybe you think again!

In 1947, there was no Rock Hudson.

But there was a Roy Fitegerald, who worked in his father’s electrical-appliance store and at other odd jobs after getting out of the Navy.

In a period of transition he worked co-operatively with the perceptive agent who saw exciting possibilities in him, and he worked with the late great coach Sophie Rosenstein, of Universal-International Studios. In short, he worked, worked, WORKED twenty-four hours a day to become the Rock Hudson of today.
Stardom Has No Physical Limitations.

Spencer Tracy is short on stature but long on stellar power. So are Alan Ladd and James Cagney.
John Wayne, Gary Cooper and Gregory Peck tower over the six-foot mark-and hit the six-figure mark in salary.

The Actor Within

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

How to develop your natural advantages and how to put them to work for you. How to become a good craftsman, and how to develop that craftsmanship to a point of artistry-and make a living while doing it.
Although directed to actors, anyone who is ever called upon to “stand up and say a few words” can profitably adapt these same tools.
“All the world’s a stage. . . .” so maybe you should find out something about how to act on it-or any other stage.

Stardust is made of many things.
Tony Curtis started out as a tousled kid from the Bronx who turned into a glamour boy. From the superficialities of this second phase, he grew into a forceful actor.
Rita Hayworth was a black-haired, chunky little girl who made a mediocre living as a dancer, until she gradually developed a new self that won her international homage as the embodiment of desirable femininity.

Pay Per View

An article about Pay Per View

I love the pay per view concept. It’s already getting to be more and more popular, and this excites me. I can’t wait until I have access to any movie I could ever want with just the push of a button and a $3.95 charge to my credit card. No late fees, no trip to the video store, just a mild thumb exercise that’s over before you know it and then wham, its movie time.

As much as I dislike television advertising, when a new video release shoots across the screen, I perk up, snatch my special book, and list the new titles. Then I can’t sleep, waiting for the “coming soon to video” to actually come to video.

HDTV LCD TV

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

An article about HDTV LCD TV

It was the day of the big game, and we were trying to decide who’s house to watch it at. Of course, Mark’s house has the advantage that it is central to everybody – 5 miles from me, 6 miles from Joe, 12 miles from Sam and Renee. But then again, Mark is a new father, and if we are there, we’ll always be being interrupted by the baby crying, every few minutes, or being shown photos, or changing diapers. We thought about having it at Sam and Renee’s house, but although they have a hdtv lcd tv, they are way on the outskirts – far from everyone except for Mark. And anyway, they are horrible house cleaners and a few of us are allergic to mold. Finally, we decided to have it at my house. I have a hdtv lcd tv, although not quite as brand new and spiffy as Sam and Renee’s hdtv lcd tv. Besides that, I always serve the best snacks and there is plenty of rome for everyone.

DVD Rentals

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Article about DVD Rentals

Dvd rentals are easier than ever. It used to be that one had to go to the local store and pay a rental fee, and then return the dvd quickly or else be charged fees which accumulated every day. Watching dvds was potentially expensive and rather anxiety-provoking at times.

It’s tough to go to the movies for $2 anymore. Though if you look you can still find a few budget theatres, they’re few and far between. When I got to college I couldn’t afford going to the movies every weekend, so I started watching movies at home. DVD rental stores are more popular than ever, and their selections are better than most of the films showing in the theatre these days anyway.

Direct TV Dish

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Article about Direct TV Dish

Sure, out here on the West Coast we have these great, cheeky commercials that poke fun at competing technologies, those ads that point to the techno-wars between satellite dish and cable companies, including ComCast cable and the Direct TV dish, for example. One commercial, for instance, features a husband and wife: the wife is coming home from work, sees a huge hole in the tree, big enough for the satellite dish to send signals through, while the husband sits in the living room watching his TV and drinking from a container he rests n the tree cut-out table he has fashioned.

Cable Television

With cable television, the limitation is the number of different frequencies that can be transmitted through a single coaxial cable. Transmitting frequencies of television by way of a cable generally provides a lot more space, which has led to a tremendous increase in the number of available channels.

Health Insurance

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Many businesses offer benefits packages to their employees that includes a plan with a health insurance company. At one time these sorts of benefits packages were a standard in the business world, and any employee could expect quality medical and dental coverage. In today’s globally competitive business world, the high costs of these packages is causing them to be more scarce.
