Facts About Air Conditioners

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The air conditioner was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier, one year after earning a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He first patented it in 1906 as ‘The apparatus for cooling air’ (U.S. Pat# 808897). The air conditioner was initially used in department stores, factories, movie theatres and industries. It was only to be introduced to American homes after World War II.

At present, most if not all American homes do have an air conditioner. Office buildings also have several air conditioners installed. It is interesting to note that any new home under construction in America is fitted with an air conditioner. That is how popular the air conditioner also known as AC is, among American homes.

There are different types of air conditioners in the market today, varying from price to functionality. There are, however, four standard units from which modified versions emerge. Most popular is the Central air conditioner. About 70% of all air conditioners currently in use belong to this category. The central air conditioner consists of an outdoor section known as a condenser, and an indoor section, connected together by a copper pipe.

There is the Ductless air conditioner. This also has an indoor and outdoor section, but lack the duct systems. They are used to cool rooms and can have several indoor sections in different rooms connected to a single outdoor condenser.

Another type of air conditioner is the Portable air conditioner. It is very similar to the central air conditioner the only difference being in size. The portable AC is smaller and much lighter making it movable and very popular in providing instant cooling to rooms.

The other type of air conditioner is the Window air conditioner. Although very similar to the portable AC both in design and function, the difference between them is, the components of a window AC are housed inside a cabinet making them less movable.

Installing any type of air conditioner in your house has its benefits. For starters, the AC keeps a stable room temperature, this regardless of the conditions outside. Most of them come with IR remotes and are capable of changing the temperature in minutes. Air conditioners remove moisture from the air as it is cooled. During summer, humidity levels can be very high and an air conditioner can reduce these levels to suit your desired conditions.

A few disadvantages of air conditioners include, the costs of running them, they need some attention and cleaning, they work best indoors with both doors and windows closed. Some air conditioners are noisy.

All in all, air conditioners are a must have in every American household and its best to have yours before this coming summer.

Choosing the Best Reptile as Your Pet.

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

They’re a unique popular choice of college students, and that is unsurprising, because they tend to be particularly appropriate as pets within smaller apartments as well as dormitory rooms simply because they are able to exist within relatively small enclosures.

In contrast to a number of prevalent types of domestic pets, which include puppies, kittens and cats and also pet rabbits, it’s not as essential to make sure they’re fed and watered every day. Nonetheless, I’m certainly not advocating some sort of regimen where your pet is actually overlooked.

I’m merely suggesting that if you cannot keep to your normal regular feeding routine, then it’s likely your reptile pet can survive perfectly well if you’re overseas for a couple of days. Additionally, herptiles require much less care compared to a number of other types of domestic pets, and thus, they make suitable domestic pets for anyone that has a busy life-style.

These kind of wildlife will need a good enclosure or perhaps caged environment, the dimensions of which can be dependent on their particular size. Naturally, bigger reptiles will probably, and predictably, need a more substantial cage compared to a smaller pet.

If you have made the decision to have a lot more than one particular herptile, it is best that you simply contain all of them in accordance with the species kinds, I highly recommend you do not house them all within the same enclosure whenever they are incompatible; their lives are going to be unhappy, at the very least for one of these animals.

I recommend you buy a taller enclosure for all those reptiles which want to climb, and a broader cage for all those animals which usually want to often be nearer towards the floor. In any event, you’ll want to ensure that you make certain that their particular dwellings are generally escape proof, for apparent factors.

Aside from selecting the correct shape and measurement of the particular enclosure, you’ll have to embark on the introduction regarding satisfactory cleaning and maintenance, ground covering, heat as well as light. You should provide a space that is warmer in one area, and simultaneously a space that is much cooler inside the other.

This offers your herptiles the chance to select essentially the most comfy area they’ll require at any specific moment. Simply because reptiles are unable to self-regulate their own body’s temperature, it is very important to make sure an ‘energy gradient’ is included in their property.

Heat solutions can be purchased in several forms, and basking lights or (ceramic) heating elements tend to be a good choice and both provide a dependable heat source for many enclosures. Naturally, the ambient temperature from the room where the creatures are kept may have a direct effect on any heat source, therefore please keep this in your mind whenever configuring your pet’s enclosure.

Fluorescent, as well as incandescent lamps can be a dependable resource whenever furnishing illumination, and in many cases both light and warmth are going to be imparted from your singular origin; the basking light fixture is a superb case in point.

A number of pets require organic lighting effects although others are going to be extremely pleased with synthetic light. In reality, fluorescent lighting units are usually available which commonly emit light source inside the similar spectrum as day light. Do be sure you possess the suitable amount of light readily available for your selected reptiles; if uncertain get in touch with an expert and get the very best reptile pet supplies within your budget, however do not go overboard.

Lastly, it’s of extreme relevance to go with a ground covering within the enclosure that is ‘reptile-friendly’. Floor covering that you might fit within your house is not any good for any herptile. The key concern ought to be given to the actual ease of cleansing, or not, as the case may be.

You should be mindful that certain micro-organisms can easily breed and flourish within the smallest of spots within the enclosure. Even though a weekly cleansing of your cage can ordinarily help with keeping your herptile healthful, in good shape as well as contented, it’s decent practice to replace the water and thoroughly clean the meals bowls every day.

Living With Off Grid Solar Power

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

In America, even in the modern world, we all love the idea and romanticism of self sufficiency. And living using off grid solar power feeds right into what many believe is a fantasy.

Building a home or small cabin in the middle of nowhere may be the dream of many, but when they realize that utility companies may be reluctant to extend power lines to the area, the dream often dies. Nowadays, however, with the use of the sun becoming more realistic to supply electricity, constructing a building where no electric lines are available, using off grid solar power units makes it more feasible.

Owning land in the middle of the woods can make an ideal spot for hunting, fishing or just for getting away from it all. However, giving up the amenities that many people have become accustomed to enjoying may not be high on everyone’s list.

Soft Side or Regular Hot Tub, Which One To Buy?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

When purchasing a hot tub, you have many decisions to make. One is whether to get a hard sided or soft sided shell. Many people prefer the soft side hot tub to the regular hot tub.

The benefits of owning a soft sided hot tub are many: Even though they are soft sided, they are full featured and can sustain just about any attachments and add-ons that a regular “hard tub” can sustain. Most soft sided hot tubs are inflatable and are very easy to install. You simply use the air pump that the manufacturer offers. Normally the air pump will be thrown in for free when you buy the hot tub.

Soft side hot tubs are easily affordable, much more so than regular hot tubs. They can be purchased for a fractions of what a regular hot tub would cost. Also, since these tubs are so portable, you can find used soft side hot tubs for sale, saving you even more money.

Memory Foam Bed Topper – The Cheaper Alternative To A Memory Foam Mattress

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

A Memory Foam Bed Topper is a layer of specially constructed foam that you place on top of your existing mattress. The greatest benefit in using a memory foam bed topper over a memory foam mattress is cost. Foam mattresses will cost many times that of a mattress topper. But is this a false economy?

Well, if you take a look at a memory foam mattress and were able to slice it down the middle, you would see that only the top 3 inches or so is actually made up of memory foam. The remainder of the mattress is in fact there just to act as a base for the memory foam.

If you purchase a good quality memory foam bed topper, it will do exactly the same job as a full mattress as all of the benefit lies in the top few inches of foam.

It is important however that the base mattress you place your memory foam mattress topper on is in reasonable condition, ideally a little on the firm site. Placing it on a lumpy or saggy mattress will significantly reduce the benefit.

A memory foam bed topper will come in a variety of different thicknesses, usually between 1 and 4 inches and also in a variety of different foam densities all of which will have an impact on the performance of the mattress.

If you are thinking of buying a memory foam bed topper or would just like to find out more about the benefits of using a memory foam topper check out my Memory Foam Bed Topper website.

Picking the Right Espresso Coffe Pods

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

We have a great article on how to pick the right espresso pods for you.

Here is a sample…
“To have ease in making coffee you must try the coffee pod. This product helps in better and fast brewing. Most of the coffee pods just do the same function as what ‘Easy Serving Espresso’ does but a clear difference is there.
“Easy Serving Espresso” (ESE) pods are most functional and effective products. This product saves your time and money as well; the main purpose is just to avoid the time consumption for those people who cannot withstand without espresso.
For espresso machine, a special adaptor is required and with combination of ESE pods to preserve the energy. Another question that clicks to your mind will how come this could add ease in coffee making? It is used in the espresso machine but the fact is this product makes coffee creamier. Sometimes we did not get the right combination of coffee pod with the coffee machines and it is because the pods and machines are not properly labeled. So, proper combination is part of process.”

Birthday Party Invitations

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Birthday party invitations can be either verbal or in written, decorated form and how you distribute them is really a matter of preference, though often it depends on what type of party it is. Informal occasions or a party with familiar guests can usually come together by word of mouth.

On the other hand, big fancy parties often make use of fancy RSVPs. Think parties like the ones you see on My Super Sweet 16, where sometimes the birthday boy/girl/person doesn’t even know half the guests. But birthday party invitations don’t have to be fancy; sometimes it’s nice to distribute handmade personalized invitations to close friends.

Artificial Grass Dog Runs

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Artificial grass dog runs are a true value when it comes to keeping your pet happy and those dog runs and dog kennels neat and tidy. They are also the most comfortable for your pet. Using gravel or decomposed granite can cause paws to become raw and tender. Artificial grass dog runs are soft on the paws and will give your pet a comfortable area for him or her to sleep and play on.
As more and more artificial grass gets introduced to the market, the styles becoming readily available are increasing dramatically. Generally, the quality of grass that is offered through most legitimate contractors is comparable between the companies. The average product cost is between $2.50 – $4.00 per square foot, and lesser quality products sell for $.85 – $1.99 per square foot. What home owners will find, specifically in San Diego, Orange County and San Bernadino County, are dramatic variances in the installed price. We have seen artificial grass dog runs installed for as low as $5.00 per square foot and some artificial grass dog runs installed for $11.00 per square foot. While there are plenty of reasons for price variances, there are only a few that would justify such a large swing in price. Generally what is found is those installations costing $5.00 use a less thorough installation methodology and typically come with a shorter warranty, if any at all. On the opposite side of the spectrum you have the marketing machines, companies that have hefty advertising budgets and robust operations teams. The funny thing is these companies typically hire the $5.00 installation companies as sub-contractors and use a slightly higher grade material and a little more thorough installation process.
For what it’s worth, the installation method that we have found to be extremely durable in artificial grass dog runs is to use a 1.5” x 1.5” composite anchor board that is installed around the entire perimeter of the project, below grade, with the edges of the artificial grass tucked over and pneumatically stapled and attached to the anchor board. This process paired with a quality infill material and a quality artificial grass product will give your artificial grass dog run enough bind to stand up against wear and tear of even the largest of dogs.
Now for the big question. What happens when your dog goes #1 or #2 on the artificial grass? Don’t worry. As weird as it may sound, it’s just as simple to clean up as if they had gone on natural grass. Simply scoop whatever feces you can from the surface and hose down the area. Bacterial will still be there and if you don’t spray it thoroughly enough, it will smell. It is recommended to spray the artificial grass with either a soap and water or vinegar and water mixture 3 – 4 times per month, especially if it becomes the regular potty place and/or if kids will be playing on the artificial grass. Some wholesale artificial grass suppliers sell anti-microbial sprays that work wonderfully and are non-toxic, environmentally, kid and pet friendly. http://www.Purchase-green.com offers a line of this spray as well as some of the highest quality artificial grass products in southern California.

The Bodum 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal French Coffee Press Review

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

The french coffee press smashed a few days ago. Any time we’re not utilizing our espresso coffee machine (click here for the review of the Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso maker) or whenever we have guests then we normally make use of our french press. To tell the truth this is the 3rd french coffee press that’s fallen apart apart on us so we were looking for a better made coffee press . The Bodum Columbia 8-Cup Stainless-Steel Thermal Press Pot certainly fits the bill!

Product Description

Ideal for the house or the workplace, this coffee press coffeemaker doubles as an insulated thermos so coffee stays hot and fresh for up to two hours. The pot keeps Thirty four ounces (1 liter), virtually 7 5-ounce cups, and can be used for brewing tea as well as coffee. It is made of stainless steel polished to a mirror-finish, includes a large, comfortable handle, and is dishwasher-safe. The lid seals in high temperature remarkably well and turns to prevent heat from escaping through the spout between cups. The pot stands 8-1/2 inches high, including the plunger top.

Product Details

* French press creates coffee right in thermos

* Retains 34-ounces, nearly 7 Five-ounce cups

* Retains coffee hot for two hours

* Made of stainless-steel rubbed to mirror-finish

* Safe to use in dishwasher

French Press coffee has one negative aspect, if you do not deliver the whole pot whenever it’s first produced then it seems to be coolish. This pot can be a help. It’s not fantastic but it retains the coffee warm or hot for some time. I load it full of very hot tap water before I produce the coffee in it and then the coffee remains warm longer. I imagine it’s the best press out there at this price tag.

The other factor to be conscious of is when most of these coffee pots are rated for 10-12 cups they will be something fewer. The cups they’re dealing with are usually 4 ounce cups. These types of coffee pots help to make Four usual cups of coffee and not more. PS: This is often an effective way to reduce your current coffee store expenses.

Wall Clocks – Not Like They Used to Be

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

When I think of wall clocks, the image that comes to mind is the old round black and white clocks that seemed to be everywhere. As a kid I can remember going to the doctors office and seeing one there. If I went to the dentist, the same black and white clock would be there too. Come to think of it, they were in every single classroom at every single school I went to! Boy have things changed. Today wall clocks are now being used for home decorating. There are so many different styles and designs to choose from. You can now find digital wall clocks, pendulum wall clocks, retro wall clocks, themed wall clocks and yes even a black wall clock.

Choosing a wall clock for a room in your home can seem daunting. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before purchasing one for your home.

1. Where exactly are you going to put it? If it’s for the kitchen, perhaps you want a themed wall clock that revolves around food. If it’s for your bedroom, perhaps a more traditional non obtrusive design is what you’re looking for.

2. How much am I will to spend? You can find wall clocks that cost a few bucks and you can find clocks that cost a few thousand. The more you spend, the more selections to choose from.

3. Do I want it to match the decor of the room? If so, then you’ve really narrowed your choices down. If you’re room is more traditional, than obviously you don’t need to look at contemporary clocks.

This few tips can help you on your way to finding the right wall clock for any room in your home.

Improve Battery Life and Solar Power

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Solar power is the process of using the light from sun and turning it into an energy source. It has become a reliable alternative to regular power sources in remote areas. It has even been used in outer space. Solar power is used in homes, lighting, architectural projects, and cooking. It has become even more popular as the cost of fossil fuel continues to rise. Solar panels are designed to collect the power from the sun.

Once solar energy is collected by the solar panels it has to be converted into energy. This can be done by a process called solar thermal application. It involves using the energy from the sun to directly heat air or liquids. The process of photoelectric application involves the use of photovoltaic cells to change the energy into electricity.

Solar power poses no harm to the environment. However, other threats to the environment may affect the ability to use solar power in the future. Global dimming is the result of pollution. It allows less sunlight to reach the surface of the Earth. A recent concern is global dimming, an effect of pollution that is allowing less sunlight to reach the Earth’s surface. Global dimming is caused by pollution particles and global warming.

Easy Techniques To Improve Battery Life

You know as well as I do that all the batteries you ever buy are going to fail and have to be replaced. Replacement batteries are big business and you can save a little money sometimes but for the most part batteries are expensive. So would you be interested in some tips, tricks and techniques to improve battery life and save money. Read on if you are.

All batteries will fail at some point, when they have been in use for longer periods of time. But premature battery failure is one of the main frustrations people face.

Common thinking is that turning devices off extends battery life, but what happens is the opposite. Devices consume more power when they are starting up, so turning them off is not such a good idea if they are going to be switched on frequently.

Most of his artwork will have the beach, the grey skies, the edginess, the faceless figures.

Vettriano is one of the most popular artists in England and Scotland. To find the best selection of Vettriano posters and prints, be sure to check out Vettriano Prints.org. They have at least a hundred of Jack Vettriano pieces of art for you to choose from, and they can be framed or unframed.
