Arranging Nursery Furniture

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Although decorating a nursery is very exciting to most parents, there is something else that should be done beforehand. The arrangement of the furniture is an important consideration when decorating and planning your new baby’s nursery. Most nurseries include storage shelves or a bookcase, a rocker/glider, a changing area and dresser, as well as a crib. Large toys, swings, a play area, and bouncers are also common in some nurseries. It is important to plan and measure the nursery to ensure that the furniture to be bought will fit in comfortably. The following are a few ideas when arranging nursery furniture:

• The width and length of the nursery should be measured. Measurements of the closet, door, and windows are also important.
• Measurements concerning the essential baby furniture should be done next.
• The position of the crib must be decided on. The crib must be located away from any windows, but must be easy to access.
• The position of the comfy chair/rocker should be near the crib (not more than 3 feet away).
• The changing table should be near the doorway. This way it is more convenient when bringing the baby from another room when it needs changing.
• The pieces of furniture with the baby monitor and a lamp should be near an outlet. Cords are thus kept out of the way (especially when baby starts crawling).
• It is important to remember that the nursery should be comfortable (enough space) to move around in.

A lot of effort and time can thus be saved by means of planning the arrangement of the nursery furniture before decorating it. For more information regarding nursery furniture, visit Dream Furniture.

How To Decorate Your House

Monday, September 1st, 2008

By decorating your house in a tasteful and appropriate way, you can make it a much more pleasant place to be. House decorations can either be permanent or seasonal depending on what time of year it is.
First of all, you shouldn’t attempt to decorate your house using anything that is too obnoxious. Use things that will compliment what is there already, instead of things that will stand out and overshadow the decorating job that you have already done on that room. It is also a good idea to steer away from bright colors that are more outstanding to the eyes.
If you cannot decide what kind of home decorations to buy, you can look at pictures of professionally decorated rooms in magazines or on the Web.

Feng Shui In Bedrooms Advice

Friday, August 8th, 2008

The art of Feng Shui can bring balance and good fortune. A new baby should have a bedroom that is not over a garage or has an empty space below. The bedroom also shouldn’t be located where there is excessive noise that might keep the baby from sleeping, such as close to a living room where the TV is on, or close to a noisy street or neighbor. First of all, put the baby’s room in a good location.

Using feng shui in the nursery will help to make babies less fussy, who will feel more comfortable in their surroundings, and who will be healthy and flourish. To maximize the energy in baby’s room, there are several important factors to consider, such as room location, safety, colors, and furniture arrangement.

The bedroom should have just one door and the bed must not be placed in between the door and the window as this will result in troubled sleep. The bed should be constructed from wood and inhabitants should sleep at least 45cm above the floor and be facing the door. The room must always be clean and it’s bad luck to have plants or pictures.

Styles Of Poker Card Tables For The Home

Monday, August 4th, 2008

My husband and I enjoy playing poker also, but to the extent that we thought we needed a poker card table. However at a garage sale I found a top that converts a common square card table into a round table. The device is made out of a light weight plastic that is folded into quarters. When you unfold it, it creates a circle. There is a flap with Velcro on it to allow the cards to slip across the seams. The top for the table is about a half inch thick and extends slightly over the square table. I like the fact that with this device you can seat six people at a card table and no one has to contend with sitting next to the legs.

Choosing Feather Pillows

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

What’s with all the reintroduction of feathers in bedding?  I thought it had gone out in granny’s day, but now it’s all making a bit of a comeback. The stores are full of people Choosing Feather Pillows, A Feather Bed (or feather mattress), feather or down comforters and all the rest of it. Feathers and down are expensive options too so why should anyone purchase them over synthetics?  Of course, the best way to answer that would be to say try them both and judge for yourself, but then that would mean buying the items just to compare, and what if you preferred the manmade fillings!  So I would say read up on feather bedding, take a look at consumer reviews online, and talk to those who you might know who made the switch. I tell you, once you’ve slept with feathers and down, they’ll be no going back!
