Christmas Gift For a Man

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Have you been searching for a Christmas gift for a man? I think there are several people who will discover themselves lost for ideas when it comes to trying to shop for a man. Well, take a look at some of these ideas before you just run out and buy the normal shaving lotion or cologne. I know most of the time men just say that anything will be just fine and that can often times be a bit frustrating. I think it’s fairly easy to pick a gift for a woman, but to choose a Christmas gift for a man does require some effort.

First of all, when thinking about a Christmas gift for a man, think about if he has any hobbies. Does he like to fish, golf, go hunting or play sports? If so, then the first place to start is by going to your local sporting goods store. You should be able to find basically anything that relates to the above hobbies that I just mentioned.

On the other hand, there are those men who work so hard that they have all but given up on their hobbies so they can dedicate more time to their job. Do you know if he liked wood working when he was younger, but stopped doing it because of his job? If so, he would probably like some tools that relate to wood working. You can probably find these items at the local home center store. If not, try getting online and searching for wood working tools.

Finally, the last tip on a Christmas gift for a man is to think about making him a nice family photo. You can arrange several family photos in a collage and then put it in a nice picture frames. If he likes taking pictures, then this could be a good gift.

Ice fishing houses and freshwater fishing lures

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

If you’re looking for a ice fishing house rental in Eastern South Dakota around the Lake Thompson, Madison and Watertown areas you just found what you were looking for. There are two large ice fishing houses for rent. To make it even better both fish houses are new.

Ice fishing shacks are 8 by 20
Each fish house has ten holes
One wall heater per house
Battery hookup for lights in each
Four beds in each fish house
Easy set up
Each wheel cranks up individually including the hitch.

You should bring 1 additional small heater for the back of the fishing shack. Also I’d suggest a lantern to save on your battery.

There are many types and varieties when it comes to lures and trying to decide between them can be confusing to a beginner so you might wat to read these freshwater fishing lures tips..

A lure is defined as an object, often designed to resemble a fish’s prey, and they usually come equipped with one or more hooks.

When you decide to use a lure, what type do you choose? There are many different kinds of lures and they are used in different regions for a variety of purposes.

Jigs are made of weighted metal heads and a tail that is made from animal hair, soft plastic, feathers, or rubber. A minnow can sometimes to be added or a piece of bait can be attached to the hook. Jigs can be used for almost any kind of freshwater fishing. The plastic tails are the most commonly thought of baits. The Best Alaska Fishing

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

If you are planning a fishing trip to Alaska, you are going to need a good Alaska fishing guide.

Before I took my vacation up to Alaska, I a little understanding of how large Alaska was, and how remote some of its destinations. My Alaska fishing guide certainly made me aware of just how large Alaska is.

Along with its largeness, and its remoteness, Alaska is wild and sparsely populated. This is what makes Alaska fishing and hunting so attractive to some many people. Alaska fishing lodges are some of the most isolated in the world, and along with that have some of the best fishing. Most Alaska fishing guides are knowledgeable and you need to be knowledgeable to survive in such a brutal and isolated environment.

Walleye fishing techniques and northern pike techniques

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Gone fishing – that’s where I usually was. In the fall it was gone to fish for walleyes and northerns. Anything else we caught was an accident. Here are some northern pike techniques for newbies to catch big northerns.

One day my dad heard the northerns were biting on a small, hard to get to, out of the way, little lake that was back in the middle of a cow pasture. The road to the fishing lake was more of a trail and it’s a good thing I had a pickup as my car wouldn’t have made it back in there.

We were the only people there and I picked a spot on a small point where an arm of water that wandered back into the pasture started. It was fall and I figured the northers might be going into the shallows on the arm to bask in the sun and then come back to the deeper water to feed.

This walleye fishing techniques article is a guest article. It’s pretty good walleye info and it’s also obvious the person is from Minnesota. Lol, the walleye fishing lake that’s the walleye capital of Minnesota is Mille Lacs. I’ve fished it hundreds of times for walleyes. For many years it was known as the dead sea but after some radical new fishing rules walleye fishing is now really hot. Anyway, here’s the walleye article.

Fishing is a sport that most people have tried at least once in their lives. It seems that no matter where you live there is some type of fishing available; whether it is freshwater, deep sea, stream or pond. The techniques that are used vary greatly, as well as the equipment that is needed. The equipment and techniques depend upon the species that is being fished. My husband and I do a great deal of freshwater fishing. I love the action of fishing for pan fish and bass, but you cannot beat walleye fishing for the great tasting fillets.

While I’ve fished in the oceans before I’ve never been Blue Marlin fishing and that’s why this article is on a freshwater lakes fishing site. ;) Marlins are characterized as big game saltwater fish. The average weight of a blue marlin is anywhere from one hundred to five hundred pounds or possibly more. Their bodies can reach ten feet and they are mainly found in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans.

The blue marlin is known for its ability to fight, so you must be willing to match the marlin’s will to live in order to take the sport seriously. Just like any other fish, the importance of learning the habits of the blue marlin is essential before trying to make them submissive to a hook.

When marlin are in their prime habitat they will feed on many things including mullet, cero, whole ballyhoo, dolphin, flying fish, bonito, skipjacks, squid and Spanish mackerel. The reason for understanding the marlin’s eating habits is to know what bait will be useful to catch these great fish.

Investing In A Solid Fishing Rod Rack

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Depending upon your needs and the amount of room you have for storage, you can get a small or large fishing rod rack. Even if you currently do not have a lot of different rods, if you plan on buying more in the future for different types of fishing then you might as well just invest in a large fishing rod rack now. This way, you will have plenty of room to store and add onto your collection of rods without worrying where you are going to end up storing them for safe keeping.

Buying Versus Making Your Rack

There are a lot of different kinds of racks out there and the one fishing rod rack that you pick has to be one that will do the job that you need it to. Not everyone would agree on which one fishing rod rack is the best because this is generally a matter of opinion and personal taste. That is why there are so many different options out there in order to please everyone. If you are someone that likes things to always be a certain way, you may never find the fishing rod rack that you want the most.

Overflow Box For Your Aquarium

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

However, it’s very important when building or buying an add-on overflow box for your aquarium that you ensure that if there is an power outage and the electricity powering the pumps goes off, that your tank does not overflow. The last thing you want is a room full of water and fish on your living room floor.

Public aquariums will always have overflow boxes as will the ardent fish lovers who have 30 and 50 gallon tanks. An aquarium overflow box involves two boxes. One sits inside the tank, the other sits outside. A siphon tube moves water from one to the other. The aquarium overflow box will normally take water from the surface of the aquarium because there is less solid waste there to clog filters and so on.

Useful Cookware for Outdoor Cooking

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

12″ Camp Dutch Oven – The best is cast iron which is at least 4″ deep on the inside. Is should come with a heavy cast iron, snuggly fitting cover as well. Other nice features include a hinged bail made of heavy gauge wire which is securely attached to molded tangs on the side of the oven and a loop handle that is attached to the lid allowing it to be easily hooked. The oven legs are an integral part of the oven, built to survive the wear and tear on your camping equipment. And, the lid, in addition to being a cover, can be turned upside down and used as a griddle or a skillet. Properly seasoned and cared for cast iron cookware will last a more than a lifetime of camping and outdoor cooking. Plus it can be used at home on the stove or in the oven.

Putting Together All The Right Fishing Gear

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

When it comes to fishing, there are so many things that will need to be purchased in order to have everything needed to be a true success at it. While things such as a fishing rod rack are not as important as other fishing gear, there are things out there that you may want to pick up over time as they can help make things go easier.
There are things however that are extremely important fishing gear and should not be left off the shopping list. You want to make sure that your fishing trip is as fun as possible so that means that you must be prepared.
The fishing gear that you need will vary depending upon the type of waters you plan on fishing in and the type of fish that you are seeking. While it is a good idea to have a little bit of everything when it comes to fishing gear, you may want to start slow because of the expense.
Research exactly what it is that you will need in order to make the most out of your trip and get that fishing gear and nothing more unless you can really afford it. Do everything you can to make sure that you are at least not going on your trip with less then what should be required.

Winterize your sailboat – step-by-step checklist

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Before you start winterizing your sailboat, you need to make some important decisions. How and where are you going to store the boat? If you intend to haul the boat out of the water, where are you going to store it? if you have to leave the boat in the water you need to get good local information about the severity of the ice formation and how best to combat it. You’ll also have to arrange for regular inspections of the boat during the coldest months.

Your sailboat will need a cover whether hauled out or in the water. Tarpaulins or shrink wrapping are options. Tarpaulins are less expensive, but require more frequent visits to keep everything tight and waterproof. If you unstep the mast you can use it as a support for the tarpaulin and allow air to circulate during the winter. Unstepping the mast also reduces windage and stops water from running down the stays into the swages at the turnbuckles, freezing and cracking the swages.

During the winterization procedure, the motor requires the most attention. The motor is the most vulnerable piece of equipment on the boat. All water needs to be drained off or protected with anti-freeze. The head also needs to be protected as does the fresh water system. All loose equipment should be removed from the boat. Electronic equipment should be removed and stored in a warm dry place. Batteries should be removed.

Sailingmates has a two part checklist of all work required to winterize your sailboat. Read the winterizing checklist here.

Many Kinds of Fishing Can Be Accommodated in New Zealand

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

New Zealand South Island contains remote wilderness regions and promises exciting fishing experiences.

Fo example, the Nelson Lakes National Park is one of the best destinations for catching brown trout and there is rainbow trout too. The average weight of trout found in these parts is 4 – 6 pounds. Vacation companies can even arrange helicopter and fixed wing fly outs to the more remote spots.

But Hawkes Bay on the eastern coast of North Island is also particularly favored for catching brown and rainbow trout too.

Archery Equipment Advice And Information

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

As an outdoor guy myself, I prefer archery over many past times. Sure you could pop into Wal-Mart or K-Mart for some aluminium arrows or hunting supplies, but this wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. However, I must have the finest archery equipment in order to fully enjoy the recreational sport/hobby.

When you are looking for good archery equipment, you do have to think about safety if you have children. They don’t always understand that archery equipment items are not only for fun but that they can also be very dangerous. As with guns, keep them up and locked.

You should always have a safe place to keep these things that are far away from wandering hands and interested children.

Camping Tips For The Whole Family

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Whether heading out for the first time or are considered an experienced camper, everyone can use a few camping tips that may make their experience more enjoyable. One of the best ways to insure having a good time while camping is to make sure you are prepared for just about anything that can happen…tears in the tent, torn shoes or even just holding up mosquito nets can all be done with duct tape. The old saying of being able to six just about anything with duct tape and baling wire is not a joke then looking for camping tips on how to make repairs on the fly.

The exercise pad that sits rolled up the closet, while the treadmill serves as a clothes hanger, can make an ideal sleeping pad when you are camping. Additionally, instead of lugging your pillows from the bedroom into the woods, a large zip-lock bag filled with are can serve as a pillow. However, of all the camping tips offered, the best one may be not to put your head on the bag without a cloth covering.

When packing tools you think may be needed in camp, have a pair of channel lock pliers. They make good potholders for lifting hot pots off the fire. They can also be used to twist the baling wire for repairs, as offered in previous camping tips.

Scuba Diving and Snorkling Sports Are Great

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Just like school, learning is progress. You can’t simply remain at the same level year in and year out. Scuba diving requires the same progression. First, interested scuba divers have to enroll themselves in basic scuba diving courses. After they have obtained the fundamental skills and the needed knowledge of the underwater hobby, then they can proceed to the advanced level.

The next step is the Advanced Open Water Diver Course or what is simply known as the AOW. Here, advanced scuba skills are directly applied to the marine sport scuba diving. A card from the AOW is issued to the diver who passes this course.

This card must be presented at several diving areas in countries such as Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines because they won’t allow you to dive at advanced locations if you don’t have the AOW card.

Operators wouldn’t want to take the risk of putting Open Water divers to an advanced level. They would have a harder time coping with rocky currents or dangerous, azure water environments.

An advanced scuba diver must be knowledgeable of the education ahead of him. There are 5 dives required for the completion of the Advanced Open Water Diving Course. The required 2 basic Core dives are Underwater Navigation and Deep Navigation.

This insures that the sportsman is always making additional purchases. The gear for sports listed in these catalogs ranges from basic fishing and camping equipment to extremely specialized merchandise. My husband’s eyes light up like a child’s at Christmas when he gets one of these catalogs specializing in gear for sports. The sporting gear exercise equipment industry is very good at creating new and improved gear for sports on a regular basis.

If You’re Going Fishing, Be Sure to use the Right Bait

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

Each fish has a particular diet that they are fond of and the trick to catching a fish is to figure out exactly what he is hungry for.  Fishing bait can be almost anything; insects, worms, night crawlers, giant mealworms, salmon eggs, sand shrimp, cured prawns, smaller fish and nearly every fisherman has a concoction of many things combined to make his own secret bait.  Bait is defined as any substance used to attract prey.  However, in a fishing scenario it is difficult to distinguish who is the prey; man or fish?  Yes, the bait is put upon the hook to capture the fish but isn’t the real prey the man, woman or child at the end of the fishing rod.

Expert Fisherman Reveals His Fishing Line Secrets To Catch Loads Of Fish Every Time!

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Since World War II, no method of casting has gained such momentum as that of spinning. The beginning angler will ask: What is spinning? Why did it increase so rapidly in popularity? Can large fish be caught with spinning tackle? This chapter will attempt to answer these questions.

As used in this book, the term spinning means casting with a stationary spool reel. Instead of being pulled from a revolving spool, the line spins over the rim of a fixed spool without restraint. Actually, the spool of a spinning reel moves only when a fish is taking line out. It rotates on a spindle at the resistance set by the drag control. Various technical advantages accrue to the fisherman as a result. First, since it is the revolution of the spool which causes backlash, the stationary spool eliminates one of the fisherman’s most exasperating hazards. Also, the lack of restraint on the line makes possible a longer cast with a lighter lure for the average fisherman.

Many people attribute the popularity of spinning to its ease of casting, a marked advantage for beginners. However, spinning is more than a lazy man’s answer to the casting problem. While it is true that the fundamentals of spinning are easily learned, the fine points of using spinning tackle will be mastered only with practice.

Who Else Wants My Best Free Saltwater Fishing Tips And Tricks?

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

One of the toughest problems confronting the novice in surf fishing is the one of locating the fish that venture inshore to feed. As the beginner glances up and down the miles of beach, he is likely to scratch his head and wonder where he should cast his lure or bait. To him, one section of breaking waves and water looks very much like any other, and he finds it difficult to choose the best spot for fishing.

The veteran surf angler, on the other hand, can study the water and surf, then head for a certain spot where his chances of catching fish are good. How does he do it? Well, most experienced surf anglers have the ability to “read” the surf and water. By studying the way the waves break, the color of the water and the characteristics of the tides and rips, they obtain clues to the best fishing spots which are overlooked by the beginner. Veteran surf anglers have also developed their powers of observation to the point where they are able to notice every little movement or indication of feeding fish.

Unfortunately for the newcomer, however, this ability to choose the best fishing spots in the surf takes time to acquire. Through years of trial and error the seasoned surf anglers have learned which spots are the most productive and which ones to ignore. But the beginner may spend hours fishing a barren spot. What to do about it?

Long Lost Manuscript Resurfaces With The Secrets To Making Fishing Homemade Lures

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Before you can make any kind of fishing lures you must have the proper tools. In fact, without the right tools you can’t do a good job, and you’ll soon become discouraged. On the other hand, if you are equipped with the right tools you’ll find lure-making easy and highly enjoyable. So the best procedure is to obtain as many of the necessary tools in advance before you start making your own lures.

Most anglers will already have some of the tools described here. The rest can be bought without too much of an investment, and the others can be acquired as the need arises for them. Unless you want to make all the lures in this book, you won’t need every single tool listed here. If you read the chapter on the particular lure or lures you want to make, you’ll get a good idea of the tools you’ll need. Then make a list of the tools which will be needed to make those lures. Naturally, many of the same tools will be used for most of the fishing lures. But some lures will require special tools which must be bought or obtained.

The biggest single item needed for making fishing lures is a bench, table, or desk. Fortunate, indeed, is the man who has a basement, den, or special room where he can have a permanent workbench and various power tools to pursue his hobbies. For many this is out of the question, and they have to do their work on a kitchen table or desk which must also serve for other uses.
