Camping Is A Great Family Sport

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Camping is a great activity for me and my family. A lot of people like to find good camping sites as early in the year as they can. It’s important to ask a few questions when calling a place to reserve a camping site, as not all of these places are suitable, and each site will have something different to offer.
Some common questions that anyone should ask about camping sites is how much shade may or may not be there, and if there are any extras that might end up being very important. Some places have running water and electricity (great for coffee!), and these are wonderful, but not all of the sites on the camping grounds will have this. Before you reserve the camping site they are offering to you, just make sure you ask the right questions.

If you are looking for hiking boots but lack the knowledge of choosing the appropriate pairs, a hiking boots selection guide such as this one may be useful for you. Hiking boots are created using a last, which is a plastic mold. This mold is an approximation of the average foot. Because of this, you may find problems with many boots if your size is wide or extra wide. You may want to shop around and see which brands best fit your feet. Around the last is formed the upper, which is made from leather

Tips For Easy Camping Recipes

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

One of my favorite easy camping recipes is roast pork ribs. That is all there is to it. You take pork ribs, put them on a grill, and cook them. Add some slices of potato and onion and you are good to go. Bring along some barbecue sauce, and you have a great dressing. The advantage about this particular easy camping recipe is that you can not get simpler – particularly if you are only planning on camping overnight. It will taste great without any seasoning. All you have to do is to make sure that you cook the food thoroughly.
A lot of the easiest camping recipes are based off of canned food. For example, if you take canned beans, heat them up, toss in a few grilled vegetables, and serve them with hot dogs, you have a great meal you can take with you on the road.

Camping Tips For The Whole Family

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Whether heading out for the first time or are considered an experienced camper, everyone can use a few camping tips that may make their experience more enjoyable. One of the best ways to insure having a good time while camping is to make sure you are prepared for just about anything that can happen…tears in the tent, torn shoes or even just holding up mosquito nets can all be done with duct tape. The old saying of being able to six just about anything with duct tape and baling wire is not a joke then looking for camping tips on how to make repairs on the fly.

The exercise pad that sits rolled up the closet, while the treadmill serves as a clothes hanger, can make an ideal sleeping pad when you are camping. Additionally, instead of lugging your pillows from the bedroom into the woods, a large zip-lock bag filled with are can serve as a pillow. However, of all the camping tips offered, the best one may be not to put your head on the bag without a cloth covering.

When packing tools you think may be needed in camp, have a pair of channel lock pliers. They make good potholders for lifting hot pots off the fire. They can also be used to twist the baling wire for repairs, as offered in previous camping tips.

Sports Exercise Equipment Information For The Sporstman

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

This insures that the sportsman is always making additional purchases. The gear for sports listed in these catalogs ranges from basic fishing and camping equipment to extremely specialized merchandise. My husband’s eyes light up like a child’s at Christmas when he gets one of these catalogs specializing in gear for sports. The sporting gear exercise equipment industry is very good at creating new and improved gear for sports on a regular basis.

Indoor Climbing

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Indoor climbing has been looked down upon by some climbers since it ever existed, and some climbers today still swear that they’ll never bring themselves to climbing on plastic. These self-ordained “purists” decry indoor climbing for being a bastardization of rock climbing for taking something natural and beautiful and trying to replicate it with wood and plastic. Though some of these claims have merit; indoor climbing will never be the same as the real thing, it has garnered a respectable following and provides an excellent training ground for climbers who aren’t lucky enough to be able to make it to the crag everyday.

Camping In Michigan

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

It seems that there is never enough time in a day week month or year to get everything done that needs to get done. Our lives are so filled with things that we are responsible for that at times it seems that time off is all most impossible to get. It is very important to take time off from busy schedules to energize yourself. Giving up time off seems like a good way to get caught up with things that need to be done at work or home, but if this means you run out of energy and your attitude suffers, then this does not help anyone.

Getting away can be as relaxing or complicated as you want to make it. I like to keep at least three vacation days each year that I use to get away on my own. My favorite thing to do is to go camping in Michigan. I think I find this so rewarding because it is something my family did as I was growing up. There are many different locations for camping in Michigan. My family usually chose to go to the Upper Peninsula area. We liked to see the large boats on the lake and there are always lots of rivers and streams to fish in. My father taught me how to fly fish on these streams.

An article about Buying a Log Home.

There are log cabins for sale at prices within your range, because you can finance them in the same way that you can finance a house. Why you should go camping in Alaska

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

To most people, camping in Alaska means one thing: bears. Lots and lots of bears. This stereotype does not go unwarranted; in ten days of rafting the Anasek and Noatak rivers my family and I saw a dozen grizzly bears. One juvenile male even followed me down a river bank our first day in the bush. However, none of our food was eaten, nor were any of us threatened or eaten. With a little bit of care and preparation it’s easy to camp in the Alaskan wilderness and be safe from bears.

How To Build A Climbing Wall

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

Almost all climbing walls are built on the same general structure.  A frame of 2×4s or, more commonly, 2×6s, is first setup in the general shape the wall should take, usually a stud every three feet or so.  Most climbers build their home walls with a moderate overhang since it provides more training opportunities and harder climbing than vertical walls or slabs.  The stud frame is then faced with ½” or ¾” plywood.  Holes are drilled into the plywood and backed with t-nuts, and then holds are screwed into the front of the wall, anchored by the t-nuts.  The entire wall is usually anchored to wall studs, though if you’re renting an apartment or house you may need to get a little more inventive with a less-permanent anchoring system.

Australia Hostels and Accommodations

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

On most holidays the last thing you worry about is accommodation. Especially when traveling around the ‘first world’ countries. Cheap clean and comfortable hostels and guesthouses normally aren’t too difficult to find and generally tend to offer similar experiences, right? Think again.

Great Half Moon Bay

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

The coast of Half Moon Bay, California is a surfers’ Valhalla:  just a couple of weeks back, for instance, the Mavericks surf competition saw hundreds of fans and viewers taking the day off and hanging on the beaches to witness Grant Twiggy Baker of South Africa take first,  and Tyler Smith and Brock Little take second and third, respectively, on waves surprisingly sufficient considering the weather—which was nearing hot—and the area—which is relatively calm in ocean action.

Being Safe With a Firearm

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

I know a lot of people who own a gun. I know that a lot of them probably don’t know how to be as safe as they should be when they handle and shoot their weapon. Many of them don’t touch a gun for years. I think that is unsafe. The more you get to know your gun, the safer you will be.

Many people believe that it’s a persons right to keep and bear arms. What do you think? I believe that it is a right of every citizen as long as we meet certain criteria.  Now if you are a minor, a convicted felon or if you have a mental disorder, then you probably can’t legally possess a firearm.

The rest of us were left to rough it in our tents, in true camping style. We had a great a time. Just before the trip, my husband and I invested in an eight-person tent. Outdoor Camping Supplies

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Having the right camping supplies can make the difference between a fun and relaxing camping trip and a total disaster.  Even though disasters make for good stories later on, it’s generally a good idea to invest some time and effort into getting the right Camping Supply before going on a camping trip.  Camping is one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend, but starving out in the middle of nowhere while getting drenched in the rain all night is not.

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Day 2 - Evening– This picture shows that this really does progress quickly.  See your doctor, he/she will probably prescribe an antibiotic  and he/she will want to monitor this closely.  Then, and only then, you can start an aggressive immune support regimen to minimize the long term effects of this bad situation.  Actually, you can start the immune support as soon as you realize you have a problem, but please, do not minimize the importance of having your doctor involved.  As we work through this on a near day to day basis, you will start to see just how important aggressive immune support can be in controlling brown recluse spider bite symptoms or any other kind of poisonous spider bite.

The Canvas Wall Tent

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Since the walls and frames are relatively heavy compared to nylon they usually aren’t used by backpackers, but many hikers use them as base camps for a series of day hikes. Wilderness outfitters have never stopped using canvas wall tents, as they serve as excellent hunting camps with room for an entire crew of hunters. Ranchers and cowboys use them as well for working stock, since the tents can be easily packed in by horses, set up in a matter of minutes, and provide reliable shelter for months.

Many families even use them as guest houses; they’re economical and pack away easily when company has left. Canvas wall tents can also be outfitted with a number of accessories, which make them more comfortable than any nylon tent. Perhaps the best feature is that you can stand in them easily! The first addition most people make to their canvas tent is that of a stove. Since canvas is a natural material it won’t melt like nylon, so wood-burning or propane stoves can heat up a canvas tent quickly and safely.

Mountain Bike

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Mountain Bike:

Finally, after a sizeable bit of cajoling, I managed to persuade my parents to chip in so I could affort to by a authentic mountain bike, a Klein Pulse. The bike had very strong frames, but what I was actually after was the real mountain bike frame-work. Klein was the first company to dedicate itself into crafting and molding aluminum, and the Pulse was no exception. It was a mountain bike totally free of a single round tube; all parts was butted, extruded, and shaped. It felt agile and stiff under pressure, and it came along with a Rock Shox fork to top it all off. I was in HOG Heaven.
