Why Learn Guitar?

In this article, we will talk about why so many people choose to master guitar, and what’s the best way to approach it. Also, we will give tips to help you succeed in this endeavor.

Why learn guitar? You probably already know why you have decided to do it, but we will list some reasons, which you may not have considered. People tend to learn guitar (or any other musical instrument) for one of 3 reasons: for fun, fame, or money. You can learn this instrument for fun and entertain yourself and/or others. Some people love the sound of this instrument so much that they don’t need any audience to enjoy it. They take pleasure in their own play, when they are in the mood, or when they feel down or lonely. Others love to entertain friends and family, or even perform at small public events for pleasure.

Other people learn guitar to become famous and/or rich. Doesn’t it sound impossible to learn to play like Jimi Hendrix or The Beatles and become as rich and popular as them? Even though it may sound impossible, it is achievable. New stars rise on the musical horizon all the time: James Hetfield (born 1963; Metallica), Richard Kruspe (born 24 June 1967; Rammstein), Noel Gallagher (born 1967; Oasis), Ed O’Brien (born 1968; Radiohead), Mick Thomson (born 1973; Slipknot), and many others. In order to become as good as them, you would need a good share of luck, talent, and persistence. However, it never hurts to try; the payout in the form of fame and wealth can be tremendous.

Now that we know why, the obvious question is: How can you learn to play guitar? This choice is individual for each guitarist. There are quite a number of varied ways to learn, including music schools, tutors, classes, and learning on your own. Schools are the most tedious way – it can take you as long as 5 years to graduate. Moreover, your individuality may be suppressed by the teachers. It is also likely to cost a lot. The second way are tutors and short classes. This takes less time, as well as it costs less, making it one of the preferred ways to study. Yet, it may be inconveniencing to have to travel to the class each time. The most convenient way is to learn on your own. However, it is best to be guided by someone, such as another guitarist (a friend, perhaps), a course, or a book. Books are boring and dry. That is why one of the most popular ways to learn guitar today is with the aid of the specialized home study courses with a tutor, where the tutor teaches you on a video. The material of the course can also be presented in written form.

Here are a few tips to succeed: remember your motivation and cultivate it like a flower – don’t let it pass away. Keep practicing every day, and remain very patient. If you follow this advice, you are very likely to achieve the level of mastery that you want to achieve.
