The tavern wench or beer wench brings back the medieval days of drinking beer and rum, singing and carousing in the dark dingy taverns of the early eighteenth century in England. Maidens at this time were forward sexually as was the custom of the time. The wench costume was probably considered to be of the lower classes in rural England and would probably have been about sixteen to eighteen years old.
