Acne Vulgaris

Acne Vulgaris is largely the result of increased production of hormones. This is the most common form of acne with several types of pimples such as whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts.

Let’s examine each of those types of pimples along with the symptoms.

Whiteheads
the result of completely blocked pore, trapped sebum (oil), bacteria and dead skin cells that eventually turns into a visible Comedo(primary sign of Acne. Whiteheads are normally quicker in life cycle than blackheads, this is the type of acne Vulgaris what called closed comedones. The reason is because the comedones stay below the surface of the skin.

Blackheads
The result of partially blocked pore. The tip has a black color due to the result of a reaction between a melanin (a dark pigment in your skin) with oxygen in the air. Also know as open Comedones.

On some occasion the Comedo can develop into inflammatory lesion (severe form). With the sign of inflammatory lesion as follow swelling, redness, heat and sometimes pain.

Papules
Papules are a small firm red bump with no head, commonly referred as zit.

Pustules
In some sort of way similar to whitehead, contains a bunch of white blood cells. Appears as a red circle with a white and yellow center, also known as “pus pimples”

Nodules
A large acne with lumpy, inflamed, hard-bump under the skin’s surface, quite painful and can last for months often followed with scarring.

Cysts
Similar with nodule and the term is often used interchangeably with “nodule” because of the similar characteristics between both.

Macule
After acne lesion has been healed, there is a flat red, purple spot in the place where papule used to be.

Acne Rosacea

Acne rosacea may first appear as a red rash on your cheeks and forehead that spreads to your nose and chin. It affects more often to woman over the age of 30, but often men have more severe form. People from certain ethnic backgrounds are more likely to have it, for instance, people from Great Britain, Germany or some areas of Eastern Europe.

Heredity plays a major role as a cause of acne rosacea, with the main lesions as follow: Telangiectasias, papules, and pustules. Left untreated, it can cause what so-called Rhinophyma or the condition of the growth of excess tissue.
