But with present day needs it is not feasible for couples to have more than two or three children. A variety of reasons ranging from financial pressure on the family to even the physical condition of women to bear many pregnancies have contributed in the popularity of sterilization methods. Sterilization birth control measures have thus become popular among both rich and poor nations.
Presently the two most popular methods of sterilization for women are- Tubal Ligation and Essure. Tubal Ligation is also known popularly as “getting your tubes tied.” It is a birth control measure where the fallopian tubes of a woman are either tied, burned, cut or blocked with the help of bands, clips or rings. This procedure restricts the sperms from reaching the fallopian tube and thus stops fertilization of eggs. Also it stops the eggs from reaching to the ovary.
