Learning Beginner Quilting

July 20th, 2008

When you want to take up beginner quilting, or you want to teach someone, think about the very basics of what happens when a quilt is put together. One of the first things that my grandmother taught me was how to use a sewing machine. Once I got so that I could do straight lines and learned how to change thread and the bobber, I was good to move on to the next beginner quilting lesson. She got of squares of fabric and showed me how to put them together with the sewing machine, and then how to make up a pattern of my very own.
Most quilts today are not in the regular square shape that you may remember. Some still do this, but there are some other really amazing patterns out there that you can customize with your own colors and fabric patterns.
