Stop Chronic Heartburn
October 28th, 2007Do you suffer from chronic heartburn? Millions of people do and it can be a very unpleasant condition. Chronic heartburn can wake you from a sound sleep, make you feel like you are choking and cause chest pain. It happens most when you lie down or when you are bending over, but it can happen in any position even standing up. Chronic heartburn occurs when the acid in your stomach travels back up the esophagus. Occasionally it can even go into the windpipe. Many people dread eating meals because they think food is the cause of chronic heartburn. It can contribute to it, but the foods you eat are not the only thing that causes this condition.
Smokers are at a higher risk of having heartburn, so if you smoke start cutting back and try to eliminate tobacco all together. If you suffer from chronic heartburn don’t wear tight clothes that help to push the acid back up into your esophagus. Anything tight around your stomach will do this. Anyone that is overweight is at high risk for having chronic heartburn therefore, you should begin an exercise routine that will help you shed those unwanted pounds and reduce the symptoms of heartburn. If you have a lot of problems sleeping at night due to heartburn, then try sleeping with your head elevated to help relieve these symptoms.
